Frequently asked questions

The event

What is Move a Million Miles for Muscles?

We’re asking people across the UK to collectively move one million miles and turn miles into money.

It’s fully-accessible and open to everyone across the UK. You can do it on your own or recruit your family, friends or work colleagues and do it as a team!

It’s easy to take part – once you’ve signed up, you decide how far you want to travel based on your own mobility and how you’re going to move. After that it’s all about getting sponsored!

Just make sure that it is safe and a challenge for you, as this will make people more likely to sponsor you.

Do I have to move a minimum or set distance?

There is no minimum or set distant.

Choose your own adventure by setting your own goal and how you’re going to move.  You could walk, swim, cycle or scoot your way to your target!

Whether you choose to move one mile or more you will be part of something big!

Fundraising

How much do I have to fundraise?

You don’t have to raise a minimum amount.

Every mile you take and every pound you raise will help us to fund research into new treatments and cures, and drive changes to make sure people with muscle-wasting conditions get the support they need to live well.

What is everydayhero and how do I use it?

Everydayhero is an online fundraising platform, which you can use to collect your sponsorship. Your fundraising page will be set up automatically when you register for Move a Million Miles for Muscles.

If you have already registered, you can access your page and by entering the log in details you supplied when you signed up. You can share your page with friends and family to encourage them to donate to you.

What is Gift Aid?

Gift Aid adds 25p to every £1 donated, at no extra cost to the donor. It’s a Government scheme that enables charities to claim this ‘extra money’ from tax that people have already paid.

To allow us to claim Gift Aid, the donor has to be a UK taxpayer and have paid sufficient Income Tax and/or Capital Gains Tax to cover the amount Muscular Dystrophy UK will reclaim in the tax year. If you are fundraising offline, please make sure you send your sponsorship form to us so we can claim it.

Are there are any downloadable fundraising materials?

Yes, the Downloads section has lots of tools to help you reach your target including a Fundraising Guide and social media badges to help spread the word about your challenge.

Can I get local support?

Yes, our local team can provide advice, support and materials to help you achieve your target.

How do I pay in my money?

Asking people to donate directly to your fundraising page is the easiest way to pay in your sponsorship, as the money comes directly to Muscular Dystrophy UK and cuts out any admin for you.

If you’ve collected cash, then you can pay in the money yourself (using a credit or debit card) to your fundraising page. Don’t forget to send us any sponsorship forms so we can claim the Gift Aid.

Or send a cheque made payable to Muscular Dystrophy UK to:

Move a Million Miles for Muscles, Muscular Dystrophy UK, 61A Great Suffolk Street, London, SE1 0BU

Please do not send cash through the post.

How will my money help?

By supporting Muscular Dystrophy UK, you will be helping to bring forward the day when we beat muscular dystrophy.

Every mile you take, and every pound you raise, will help us to:

- Fund research into new treatments and cures to improve the lives of people today and transform those of tomorrow

- Campaign for the best care and support for the 70,000 children and adults living with muscle-wasting conditions in the UK

- Sharing information, advice and practical support to help people with muscular dystrophy live well.
